Hey, I’m Jazzmin Greathouse.

I’ve always loved art but for the longest never had confidence in my own.

Then I painted the family dog I grew up with for my Daddy and ta-da— Greathouse Paintings was born.

I took an ornithology class in college (over ten years ago) that sparked my love of birds.

For some reason, flamingoes really got my attention after college.

Then I got married and had twins via a 15-week-early and traumatic delivery.

Motherhood and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) thoroughly whooped my butt for seven and a half months.

And wouldn’t you know, I watched a documentary about flamingos and saw that when they have chicks—

They lose their vibrant color! They’re drained and exhausted from raising their young.

I love my kids, but motherhood is not for weaklings and I had no idea just how hard it is.

So a flamingo is “my” (and plenty of other tired-but-keepin’-on mamas’) bird.

My mother’s bird is a northern cardinal.

My best friend’s bird is a barred owl.

Artist Statement

I paint expressive oil and acrylic paintings of birds with loose and bold brushstrokes.

An appreciation of birds invites us outside—into wonder, into healing.

It doesn’t matter if you're navigating loss, recovery, or simply catching your breath, birds have a way of showing up when we need them most.

Everyone has their bird—the one that sparked it all or appeared at just the right time.

That’s what I paint: the bird that found YOU.
